The 6th grade math curriculum focuses on the following concepts: 

  • Prime and Composite Numbers, Prime Factorization, GCF, LCM
  • Integers (comparing, ordering, adding and subtracting)
  • Exponents and Order of Operations
  • Translating and Evaluating Expressions
  • Equations
  • Inequalities
  • Fractions, Decimals, and Percents
  • Multiplying and Dividing Fractions and Mixed Numbers
  • Multiplying and Dividing Decimals
  • Coordinate Plane
  • Patterns and Relationships
  • Translations, Reflections, and Rotations
  • Area of Parallelograms, Triangles, Decomposting Composite Figures
  • Angle Relationships of Intersecting LInes
  • Triangles (Interior Angles, Missing Angle)
  • Symmetry
  • Ratios and Unit Rates
  • Mean, Median, Mode, Range

The 6th grade math extensions curriculum covers the same concepts, but at a much faster pace.  We will also cover many 7th grade concepts throughout the year such as Absolute Value, Multiplication and Division of Integers, Ratios, Proportions, Percents, 2-step Equations and Inequalities, Surface Area, Circumference and Area of Circles, Percent of Change, Discounts, Tips, etc.


The Pre-Algebra curriculum is a fast-paced, accelerated curriculum designed to cover the majority of 7th and 8th grade curriculum, preparing students to take Algebra next year.

The concepts covered in pre-algebra are:

  • Properties of Integer Exponents
  • Multiply and Divide Numbers Expressed in Scientific Notation
  • Rational and Irrational Numbers
  • Square Roots and Estimating Square Roots
  • Functions
  • Independent and Dependent Variables
  • Linear Functions and the different representations (Translate from one to another)
  • Rate of Change
  • Slope and Intercepts 
  • Simplify and Evaluate Expressions
  • Illustrate, Write,and Solve Equations including one solution, infinitely many solutions, and no solutions
  • Inequalities
  • Properties
  • Pythagorean Theorem
  • Surface Area of Prisms and Cylinders
  • Volume of Rectangular Prisms and Cylinders
  • Integer Operations (add, sub, mult, divide)
  • Mean and Median (describe impact of inserting or deleting a data point)
